Amazon.com (AMZN) has said artificial intelligence models should be released when "ready and safe" amid calls from industry leaders to slow down the development of frontier AI, Bloomberg reported late Thursday, citing a company spokesperson.

The e-commerce giant, which has been heavily investing in AI companies including OpenAI and Anthropic, said it does not see a choice between progress and safety, and AI models should be launched after rigorous testing and with strong safeguards, the media outlet added.

The company said stronger safeguards and cooperation between the technology industry and governments will be needed as AI systems become more capable, according to Bloomberg.

Amazon did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
