The statement comes amid calls for a slowdown by US-based AI companies, including OpenAI and Anthropic.

The minister said that the gap between countries with advanced AI models approaching human-level intelligence and those without them could extend beyond technology and impact a country's industrial competitiveness, national security, and future economic growth, according to the report.
