Market Chatter: Meta Platforms' Smart Glasses Face France Probe Over Nonconsensual Filming

Meta Platforms' (META) AI-enabled smart glasses are facing growing scrutiny in France, where Paris prosecutors have opened a criminal probe into suspected sexual harassment involving the devices, Reuters reported Friday.

The probe follows complaints over a social media trend of using smart glasses to record women on the street without their consent and post the videos online, with prosecutors not specifying the brands involved, according to the report.

France's data protection regulator has also received fewer than 10 complaints involving smart glasses used in workplaces, Reuters said.

Meta said it has built privacy protections into its AI glasses and will continue strengthening safeguards as the devices become more capable, the report added.

Meta Platforms did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
