Meta Platforms (META) has initiated a new legal challenge in London against the UK's media regulator, Ofcom, over additional scrutiny under the Online Safety Act, several news outlets reported Sunday.

Meta's lawyers served notice over the last week, appealing the placement of Instagram and WhatsApp in a category that subjects them to additional responsibilities, including higher transparency requirements, more user controls, and measures to prevent fraudulent advertising, according to The Guardian.

Meta and Ofcom did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
