Amazon (AMZN)-backed Anthropic is evaluating the potential launch of a new AI model ahead of its planned initial public offering to counter the momentum of OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, Reuters reported over the weekend, citing three people familiar with the matter.

The deliberations come as Astra gains traction among enterprise users, prompting some investors to reassess Anthropic's competitive position, according to Reuters.

Data from corporate spending platform Ramp showed Astra accounted for about 13% of tracked enterprise AI spending, compared with about 8% for Anthropic's Claude Fable, the report said.

The company is evaluating safety issues tied to its next model and weighing investment needs against pressure to strengthen profitability, sources told Reuters.

Anthropic did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
