Google Releases 'Googlebook' PCs Starting at $899

Google is releasing a line of laptops built on Android technology, beginning at $899 apiece.

The company said Monday that it was releasing five flagship "Googlebook" models from some of the leading personal computer manufacturers: HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, and ASUS. They feature chips from Intel and Qualcomm.

The laptops are designed to incorporate Google's Gemini artificial-intelligence models "directly on your device," the company said. PC makers and sellers have been increasingly focusing on higher-priced models optimized for AI to offset soaring costs from memory chips and a slowdown in PC unit sales.

Among the Googlebook's AI features are a "Magic Pointer" that directs Gemini to different parts of a laptop screen and a tool called "Rambler" that transcribes and organizes spoken thoughts. The Googlebook also includes Antigravity, Google's tool for developing AI agents.

The laptops are also designed to be easily compatible with Android phones, the company said. Each laptop includes 12 months of a Pro subscription to Google's AI services, as well as three months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop.

The company said that pre-orders are open now, with devices expected to hit shelves on Oct. 4 in the U.S. and Oct. 5 in certain international markets.
