Rio Tinto Group (ASX:RIO) entered a three-year partnership with charity organization the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation to help indigenous communities preserve their languages for posterity, according to a Tuesday statement.

The partnership will assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to develop language initiatives through the foundation's Living First Languages platform, which lets communities "capture, manage and teach their languages in ways that reflect local priorities, cultural protocols and aspirations," the company said.

The partners will support community-led language initiatives in Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia, and New South Wales.
