India's Food Safety and Standards Authority said Wednesday it initiated penal action against Amazon.com's (AMZN) Amazon Seller Services over alleged food safety and regulatory non-compliances.

The regulator cited misleading or non-compliant claims on Happilo Premium Date Bites and the sale and display of Datura fruits and seeds through Amazon's e-commerce platform.

FSSAI also initiated action against Flipkart, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto and BigBasket over similar food safety and regulatory violations, according to the regulator's social media post.

Amazon did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
