BioNTech said it would proceed with the closure of sites after it couldn't reach agreements to sell the facilities.
"Despite the intensive efforts of all parties involved and a broad-based sales process, it was unfortunately not possible to realize a sale," the company said Monday.
In May, BioNTech said it would exit its Idar-Oberstein and Marburg sites in Germany, as well as its operations in Singapore and other facilities owned by CureVac before its acquisition, but that it would explore options for a partial or total sale for each. The company said at the time it expected the decision to affect up to 1,860 positions in total.
The company said in August that a fund advised by Dubag Group would acquire its JPT Peptide Technologies subsidiary to ensure the business's continuity.
