Takeda (TAK) said Wednesday that its experimental pill zasocitinib showed superior results compared with the rival treatment deucravacitinib across the primary and key secondary endpoints in a Phase 3 trial for adults with plaque psoriasis.
Over 36.5% of patients given the new medication achieved complete skin clearance at 16 weeks, compared with 13.9% of those taking the competitor drug, the company said.
Takeda said 62.5% of subjects on zasocitinib saw a 90% reduction in disease severity by the 16-week mark, while the competing drug yielded a 34% success rate.
The company said up to 93% of patients who achieved a response at week 24 maintained their skin-clearance results through week 52 in one Phase 3 study. Takeda also reported improvements in itching and quality of life as early as week 2 when compared with a placebo and the chronic inflammatory drug apremilast.
Takeda said zasocitinib is under review by the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis.
