South Korea's $54 billion investment commitment on an LNG facility in Alaska and separate pledges for other U.S. projects could be part of plans to be revealed by President Donald Trump as early as Wednesday, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing two people familiar with the matter.
The Alaska site looks to produce natural gas that could be transported to Asian markets, making it the first U.S. venture to have direct entry to the region, the report said.
However, South Korean analysts and investors expressed qualms on the fairness of the investments as the country would be the sole investor while splitting profits with the U.S., the report cited a Seoul-based analyst as saying.
The South Korean embassy for the U.S. did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
