Consumer stocks were mixed Thursday afternoon with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) shedding 0.3% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) gaining 0.2%.
In corporate news, Kimberly-Clark (KMB) said President and Chief Operating Officer Russ Torres will leave in November for a chief executive role elsewhere. Kimberly-Clark shares fell 2%.
Tesla's (TSLA) new vehicle registrations increased across several European markets in September, marking another month of improving regional sales, Reuters reported. Tesla shares rose 0.7%.
General Motors (GM) reported a 6% decline in Q3 vehicle sales in the US to 670,974 units. GM shares rose 1.5%.
McCormick's (MKC) fiscal Q3 results exceeded Wall Street's expectations even as the spices and seasonings producer faced volume weakness amid macroeconomic uncertainty. The shares fell 2.8%.
