Island Pharmaceuticals (ASX:ILA) said good manufacturing practice (GMP) manufacture of the active pharmaceutical ingredient for its Galidesivir antiviral commenced on Oct. 1, marking the transition of its expanded manufacturing program into physical production, according to a Friday Australian bourse filing.
The company said the first 5 kilogram GMP batch is targeted for completion by the end of October and is earmarked for its approved emergency-use program in Uganda during the current Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak.
The company added that a second 5 kilogram batch is targeted for completion by late November.
Galidesivir is a clinical-stage antiviral molecule with broad-spectrum activity against more than 20 RNA viruses, including high-priority threats such as Ebola, per the filing.
