President Donald Trump announced on October 6 that Beckton Dickenson (BD), a major medical device manufacturer, has agreed to invest $3 billion to onshore the production of essential medical products such as syringes, needles, and lab kits that American patients and hospitals depend on. The largest expansion will be in Nebraska, where BD will invest over $1 billion to ramp up production of numerous products, including needles made with American steel.
Trump attributed the announcement to his strong medical device tariffs, which will be in place by the end of the year. “Build in America, hire American workers, and treat American patients fairly — or pay!” he warned. The President noted he would travel to Nebraska later that day to highlight the investment.
“No one likes needles — But, if you need one, it should be made of American Steel in the U.S.A.,” Trump said.
BD is one of the largest medical device manufacturers globally. The investment aims to secure the supply chain for critical medical supplies amid Trump’s push for domestic manufacturing.
