Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi opposed NextEra Energy's (NEE) proposed $67 billion acquisition of Dominion Energy (D), adding to scrutiny of the deal as it awaits regulatory approval in Virginia, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

Hashmi said the proposed takeover is not in the best interest of Virginians and that the utilities need to provide substantial evidence that the deal would not affect future rates, according to the report.

NextEra and Dominion offered additional ratepayer benefits in September, including four years of bill relief and 1,000 jobs.
