Telstra Group (ASX:TLS) launched the Perth, Western Australia, to Sydney, New South Wales, route of its Aura Network, the telecommunications company said in a statement on Wednesday.
Over 9,000 kilometers of fiber has been constructed as part of the network, with six routes ready for service, Telstra Digital Infrastructure Chief Executive Steven Worrall said.
The new section marks the longest route in the terrestrial intercity fiber network, which will allow "significantly higher" data volumes to move between major cities and enable communities along the route to connect into it, per the statement.
Telstra shares rose 1% in afternoon trade Thursday.
