The U.S. Treasury accepted $6 billion in a buyback operation of 20- to 30-year bonds Thursday.

Nearly $14.9 billion of securities were offered for the operation, with the Treasury accepting the maximum amount authorized.

Following the operation, yields on 30-year Treasury debt hovered at 5.608%, below the session highs on the day of 5.7315%. Analysts projected that the buyback was unlikely to have a significant impact on Treasury yields, as its $6 billion operation size was anticipated.

In August, the U.S. Treasury disclosed plans to increase the size of its liquidity-support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal coupon securities.

Last month, the Treasury increased the size of a planned buyback operation for securities maturing in 10 to 20 years to $6 billion, triple the typical amount, though the move wasn't enough to push yields lower.
