Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) is in talks to collaborate with Elon Musk's Terafab, his planned chip plant in the US, Chief Executive C. C. Wei told analysts and investors, according to a transcript of the company's Q3 2026 earnings call.
"We send the teams to Texas to do all the evaluation. And we also talked to one of our customers who try to build a fab, Terafab," he said. "And we are discussing with them to see whether we can be utilizing that actual capacity also."
Wei said his company must operate its fabrication plants in any alliance. But Musk said in a post on his X platform earlier this month that his companies will "build and run the fab" while TSMC may sublease a section, "but nothing more."
