3M Company (MMM) expects to acquire about 4.7% of Taiwan-based Genius Electronic Optical (3406.TW) through a private placement of newly issued shares, as part of a collaboration to advance manufacturing of its Expanded Beam Optical solutions, the company said Monday.

The collaboration aims to support commercialization and capacity expansion of the technology for hyperscale data centers and other advanced connectivity uses.

The investment is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
