WHAT TO WATCH:
--Analysts will be watching Coca-Cola's results for a sign of how consumers are holding up, both in the U.S. and internationally. Chief Executive Henrique Braun said at a conference last month that the global consumer backdrop remains uneven, with low-income consumers under pressure, a trend the company has responded to by rejiggering its pricing and packaging architectures.
--Even with budget-conscious consumers, Coca-Cola recorded a 5% increase in overall case volume during the second quarter, helped by marketing efforts including its World Cup campaign. The company said at the time it collected more than 25 million records on customers' data during the World Cup, which it plans to use to inform future advertising. The company also saw strength for drinks like Coca-Cola Zero Zero--which has zero calories, sugar and caffeine--in the quarter.
--Coca-Cola recently struck a deal to provide beverages to thousands of KFC's U.S. restaurants, in a blow to KFC's longtime supplier, PepsiCo. The switch, set to begin in January, comes as restaurants assess their beverage offerings as they look to appeal to younger consumers and boost profits.
