Viasat (VSAT), Space42 and Terrestar Solutions said Wednesday they signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an open, standards-based interoperability framework linking Terrestar's planned Canadian low-Earth orbit constellation with Equatys, a planned global platform for direct-to-device and other mobile-satellite services.
The framework is intended to allow the two systems and their ground segments to operate as a coordinated multi-system non-terrestrial network while each company retains ownership and control of its own assets.
The approach is aimed at supporting global scale while preserving national sovereignty over critical communications infrastructure, the companies said.
