Construction has commenced on a significant new vessel, as reported by China Water Transport Network. On July 28, the 175,000 cubic meter LNG carrier H5184 began its build at the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (Dalian Shipbuilding). The vessel is being constructed for Shanghai COSCO Shipping LNG Investment Co., Ltd. and Sinopec Kantons Holdings Limited.

This LNG carrier is an independently developed design by Dalian Shipbuilding. It has an overall length of 299.7 meters, a molded breadth of 46 meters, and a molded depth of 26.2 meters. The vessel is designed with a draft of 11.5 meters and a service speed of 19.5 knots, and it will be classed by both DNV and CCS.

The cargo containment system for H5184 will utilize the GTT Mark III Flex membrane system. The ship is equipped with a cryogenic re-liquefaction plant, which is designed to significantly enhance economic efficiency by managing boil-off gas. It is also designed to meet the highest one-man bridge operation class notation, NAUT(OC), ensuring its navigability across global shipping routes.

In terms of environmental performance, the vessel will be fitted with dual-fuel main and auxiliary engines along with an exhaust gas economizer. This configuration supports a mixed-fuel combustion mode, which helps to minimize the extra energy consumption that comes from forcing the vaporization of the LNG cargo during operation.
