Korean Stock ETFs Wobble as Seoul Equities Widen Morning Losses

Korean equity ETFs extended their downward slide during the afternoon session on Thursday, with leveraged products tracking major Seoul-listed tech names bearing the brunt of the selloff.

As of the latest update, the CSOP SK hynix Daily (2x) Leveraged Product (07709) had fallen 5.88% to trade at HK$34.90, while the CSOP Samsung Electronics Daily (2x) Leveraged Product (07747) dropped 4.58% to HK$69.16.

Market data showed the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) plunging more than 4% in afternoon trading, briefly breaking below the 6,600-point threshold. On the individual stock front, both SK hynix and Samsung Electronics were each down over 4%.

Broadly speaking, a fresh wave of aggressive selling has swept through global bond markets this week, driven by climbing energy prices, rising inflation expectations, and shifting monetary policy signals from major central banks. The yield on the 10-year US Treasury briefly touched 4.79%, its highest level since January 2025.

Market strategists suggest that within a rate-hiking cycle, elevated short- and long-end yields alongside a flattening yield curve could systematically lift the global risk-free rate benchmark. That higher-rate environment and tighter monetary conditions are expected to weigh collectively on global equities, with technology shares tied to the artificial intelligence supply chain particularly vulnerable given how sensitive their ongoing R&D outlays and capital expenditure plans are to financing cost changes.
