China's securities regulator has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the ease with which foreign investors can participate in the nation's capital markets.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) announced on its official website on July 22 that on July 21, CSRC Chairman Wu Qing met in Beijing with John Graham, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments). The two sides exchanged views on the global and Chinese economic and financial landscape, as well as investment in China's capital markets.

In his remarks, Wu Qing stated that despite the complex and volatile international environment, China's economy maintained overall stable performance in the first half of the year, continuing its positive and high-quality development trajectory, demonstrating resilience and vitality. The CSRC will adhere to the principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, resolutely safeguard the stable and healthy operation of the capital markets, steadily expand high-level institutional opening-up, and persistently enhance the convenience for foreign capital to participate in the capital markets. He welcomed international institutional investors, including CPP Investments, to expand their investments in China and share in the dividends of China's economic and capital market reform and development.

Graham expressed that as a globally-oriented, long-term investment institution, CPP Investments places high importance on and maintains a positive outlook on the outcomes of China's economic reform and development. The institution has long considered China a key region within its global investment strategy and will continue to adhere to value investing principles, actively pursuing investment opportunities in China.
