The 2026 Spring Auction MM Art Market Price Index and Sentiment Index Report was released at a joint event held by Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business and Italy's SDA Bocconi School of Management.

The report indicates that following the global art market's recovery in 2025, the 2026 spring auction season continued this upward trend, with market sentiment significantly improving to near historical average levels. Notably, the Chinese Art Price Index stabilized and rebounded after a brief dip in last year's autumn auctions. The index has maintained a steady 25-year compound annual growth rate of 7.8%, marking the second consecutive year of recovery for the global art market.

Furthermore, the three major global art price indices all rose during the 2026 spring auctions. After nearly five years of post-pandemic volatility and adjustment, the MM Chinese Art Price Index increased by 1.7%, the Impressionist Price Index surged by 15.0%, and the Contemporary Art Price Index climbed by 10.8%.

Mei Jianping, a Professor of Finance at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, commented that over the past quarter-century, the growth of the global art market has significantly lagged behind the expansion of global wealth. The strong performance in this year's spring auctions signals a further consolidation of the market's recovery. Given the substantial wealth created, particularly through AI technological advancements in recent years within this 25-year period, the current moment may represent a crucial window for investors and collectors to consider allocating to art assets.
