The strikes impacted approximately 15 regions, including Tatarstan in central Russia and the annexed Crimean peninsula, resulting in at least 12 deaths and 39 injuries.

The most severe incident occurred in Tatarstan on Monday local time. According to official reports from the region, a drone attack on the industrial city of Nizhnekamsk killed 12 people and wounded 39 others. This represents one of the deadliest single attacks by Ukraine in the conflict, which has now persisted for over four years. Nizhnekamsk, located more than 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is a resource-rich area hosting several major oil refineries, making it a persistent target for Ukrainian retaliatory strikes. Unverified videos circulating on social media showed thick black smoke rising near a local oil facility.

Long-range strikes escalate on both sides

Russia's Defense Ministry stated it had shot down 456 Ukrainian drones overnight but did not specify how many ultimately reached their targets. Tatarstan had previously reported encountering a "massive" drone assault. Concurrently, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 126 drones into Ukraine during the same night. The United Nations has noted a significant escalation in long-range strikes by both sides this year, leading to a rise in civilian casualties.

In Ukraine's Kharkiv region, near the front lines, Russian artillery fire struck a residential area in the village of Bugayivka in the Chuhuiv district, killing five people and destroying several homes. Elsewhere, a woman died in a Ukrainian attack on Russia's border region of Belgorod, while in Ukraine's frontline Kherson region, a man was killed when a Russian drone struck a taxi. This latest assault underscores Ukraine's expanding capability to conduct long-range strikes on deep industrial and energy targets within Russia, as the exchange of fire over infrastructure and civilian objectives continues to intensify.
