Liaoning Port Group Opens New Sea-Rail Corridor for Copper Concentrate Shipments

Liaoning Port Group has recently established a new sea-rail intermodal transport corridor for copper concentrate moving from Fujian to Northeast China, marking a significant step in enhancing regional logistics networks and optimizing multimodal transport arrangements. The inaugural shipment of 280 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), weighing approximately 8,000 tonnes, has successfully completed its journey via a coordinated sequence of road, sea, and rail transport, injecting fresh momentum into the coordinated development of industrial and supply chains between the southeast coast and the northeastern hinterland.

Copper concentrate, as a fundamental raw material for non-ferrous metal smelting, demands logistics solutions where cost efficiency and reliability directly influence smelters' production expenses and competitive positioning. Previously, shipments from Fujian to the northeast relied primarily on single-mode direct transport by road or rail, which presented challenges including rigid routing, limited scheduling flexibility, and elevated comprehensive logistics costs that failed to accommodate the scale and cost-efficiency requirements of bulk mineral cargo.

To address these shortcomings, Liaoning Port Group's business teams proactively engaged with customer needs, leveraging the port's core hub advantages and specialized service platforms. By integrating high-quality logistics resources across port operations, shipping lines, and railway networks, the group has developed an integrated road-sea-rail multimodal transport system. This customized end-to-end logistics solution substantially improves the flexibility and reliability of north-south copper concentrate movement across regions.

Under the new sea-rail model, copper concentrate is first transported by road to Fujian's Zhangzhou Port and Xiamen Port for vessel loading, then shipped directly to Dalian Port. Leveraging the port group's well-established sea-rail transfer infrastructure, the cargo transitions seamlessly from maritime to rail transport, enabling rapid distribution to northeastern hinterland destinations. The entire logistics chain operates with high efficiency and smooth coordination, effectively helping customers reduce overall logistics expenditures.
