SICC (02631) surged over 4% in morning trading. As of press time, the stock was up 4.42% to HK$63.8, with trading volume reaching HK$138 million. On the news front, Meta announced the launch of three new AI smart glasses at its Connect conference, reigniting global enthusiasm for the AR glasses market. It's reported that Meta released the Orion prototype of AR glasses last year, introducing silicon carbide optical waveguide technology. SICC has already gained a head start in the silicon carbide AR glasses track, as the company has pioneered the launch of 12-inch silicon carbide substrates and is currently promoting the industrialization of 12-inch optical-grade substrates. SICC Chairman Zong Yanmin stated that with the maturation of large-size silicon carbide substrate technology, the price of silicon carbide lenses for AR glasses is expected to gradually decline. From a substrate utilization perspective, 6-inch silicon carbide substrates can produce approximately 2 pairs of AR glasses, 8-inch substrates can produce about 3-5 pairs of AR glasses, while 12-inch substrates can produce approximately 10-12 pairs of AR glasses. Since larger substrate sizes result in less edge waste, the unit cost decreases accordingly, making large-size silicon carbide substrates highly cost-effective.
