The 18th Xuanyuan Automotive Bluebook Forum, themed "Turning Point," was held in Guangzhou from May 15 to 17.

During a dialogue session, a viewpoint was raised that new energy and intelligent connected vehicles are increasingly resembling fast-moving consumer goods, with consumer replacement cycles shortening from the traditional "eight to ten years" to five years, three years, or even shorter, seemingly indicating a relaxation in the emphasis on safety and quality.

In response, Feng Xingya, Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of GAC GROUP, stated that quality remains the bottom line of the automotive industry and the "integrity" of domestic brands. He noted that while the first owner's replacement cycle has shortened, the vehicles being phased out are not scrapped but enter the used car market, where the next owner continues to use them for eight to ten years. "For the next owner, the quality of the vehicle will directly impact their driving experience and its value over those eight to ten years of use."

Feng Xingya emphasized that quality directly determines the residual value of a used car. "If a vehicle has good quality, its value at resale will be higher. This is similar to depositing money in a bank. You might pay a bit more upfront, for example, an extra ten thousand yuan, but when you sell the car two, three, or five years later, you can recover that ten thousand yuan or even more. It's essentially a concept akin to saving money; the extra amount you spend upfront will be returned through the vehicle's residual value."

He also mentioned that even for the first owner considering only a three-year usage cycle, metrics such as the first failure mileage and the average interval between failures are crucial to the consumer's experience. "Therefore, I believe that for the automotive industry, whether from the perspective of used car value, safety, or the experience of the first owner, maintaining high quality is of paramount importance."
