The Trump administration initially hoped that a U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreement would quell internal criticism of the war. However, the outcome has been contrary to expectations. This compromise with Tehran has not consolidated public support but instead plunged his already faction-ridden political coalition into severe turbulence.

Before the agreement was finalized on Tuesday, when Trump issued a threat of "civilization destruction," conservative media giants Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly publicly condemned the ultimatum as a betrayal of "America First" values.

Yet, when the ceasefire was officially announced, the hawkish camp, which had previously supported military strikes, also erupted. Conservative radio host Mark Levin, who had fervently advocated for an offensive, harshly criticized the agreement's terms as a "complete disaster." Radical influencer Laura Loomer went further, stating that such negotiations were tantamount to surrender to Iran and would only embolden the adversary.

Even in the face of what some called a "victory," critics remained unconvinced. Megyn Kelly told her audience, "I won't pretend this is some great victory for America." She even sarcastically questioned Trump: "Does he think he can't demonstrate strong leadership without threatening war crimes? Who does he think he is?"

This internal strife is not an isolated incident. Prior disagreements within the MAGA camp over issues like the Epstein files and AI regulation had already existed, and the U.S.-Iran conflict became the final straw. Prominent conservative podcaster Scott Greer noted, "Supporting Trump online is no longer a popular trend."

A deeper crisis stems from a rupture within the executive branch. Last month, U.S. National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent resigned in anger. He subsequently made the rounds on major conservative programs, alleging that the Trump administration was manipulated by external forces into a conflict that did not threaten U.S. homeland security and involved a non-nuclear adversary.

This perspective quickly resonated within conservative circles. From conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to commentator Candace Owens, and even non-political podcast hosts with millions of listeners like Joe Rogan, launched fierce criticisms against the war. Carlson even suggested on his show that Trump's actions violated religious ethics and called on Christians to reassess the president.

Trump responded with his characteristic defiance, dismissing Carlson as appealing to "low-IQ individuals" and insisting he maintains absolute control over the MAGA movement. However, analysts believe his authority is being eroded. Kurt Mills, editor of the conservative publication "American Conservatism," pointed out, "We are seeing the limits of Trump's 'political exile orders.' The core base is beginning to rebel on a large scale."

Amid the chaos, some of Trump's allies are attempting to shift focus to domestic issues. Political activist Jack Posobiec suggested refocusing on the economy, housing, and student loan debt to win back disaffected young voters. He argued, "Influencers follow trends. Once the wind changes direction, they will eventually return to Trump."

However, as further details of the agreement emerge—including controversial clauses such as potential U.S.-Iran cooperation on collecting strait passage fees—tensions within the MAGA camp continue to intensify.
