Yinchuan Gold Buyback Shop Under Investigation for Regulatory Violations

Recently, the Jinfeng District Branch of the Yinchuan Market Supervision Administration conducted surprise inspections focusing on measuring instruments used by gold recycling and processing businesses within its jurisdiction. During the inspection, a case was discovered and addressed involving a gold buyback shop using unverified measuring equipment. "Boss, please show the electronic scale verification certificate for the scale used to weigh gold," an inspector requested. "The certificate is at home; the scale is fine," the merchant replied. When officials entered the gold recycling store, they found that although the electronic balance used to weigh recycled gold was operational, the merchant could not provide a valid verification certificate on the spot. After verification, it was confirmed that the electronic balance falls under nationally mandated verification for measuring instruments and must be certified by a legal authority before being used in trade settlements. "According to regulations, this type of electronic balance used for trade settlement is compulsory verification equipment and must be periodically verified. Without a valid certificate, we must handle it according to the law," explained an inspector. The shop's actions are suspected of violating China's Metrology Law, and authorities have initiated an investigation. "Gold transactions require extremely high weight precision; even a slight discrepancy can cause significant losses to consumers," the inspector emphasized. Protecting the accuracy of these scales safeguards market fairness, and harming consumer interests ultimately damages a business's future—operators should not take chances. Market regulatory authorities remind consumers to remember three key points when selling gold jewelry: First, check the label: Before transacting, ensure the electronic balance has a valid green circular "Compulsory Verification Passed" label. Second, verify the weight: If possible, ask the merchant to re-weigh the item using another compliant scale or visit a reputable jewelry store for a free verification. Third, assert your rights: If you suspect inaccurate weighing, halt the transaction immediately and call the 12315 hotline to complain. Market supervision departments will intervene promptly to protect your legal rights. Moving forward, market regulators will continue strengthening metrological supervision at key venues such as gold and jewelry stores, markets, and seafood restaurants, strictly cracking down on "cheating scales" and "dishonest scales." Meanwhile, the 12315 complaint channel will remain accessible, encouraging consumers to participate in oversight and jointly foster a fair, transparent, and trustworthy market environment.
