eBay has confirmed in a statement that it received an unsolicited, non-binding acquisition proposal from GameStop.
eBay stated that prior to receiving the proposal, the company had not engaged in any discussions with GameStop nor had it been approached by the company.
"The eBay Board of Directors, with the assistance of its financial and legal advisors, will carefully evaluate this unsolicited proposal to determine the course of action it believes is in the best interests of the company and all its shareholders," the company said.
It advised shareholders to refrain from taking any action at this time.
The Board of Directors will focus its evaluation on the value the proposal offers to eBay shareholders, including the value of the GameStop stock consideration, as well as GameStop's ability to present a binding and actionable proposal.
The company stated that it does not intend to provide further commentary until the Board has completed a thorough and careful assessment of the proposal.
