At the 2026 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC), held from September 22nd to 24th in Haikou, Hainan, Li Chuanhai, Vice President of GEELY AUTO and Dean of the Geely Automobile Research Institute, highlighted a growing concern for the industry. He noted that while AI adoption in the automotive sector is accelerating rapidly, a critical issue demands the sector's attention: the current lack of unified AI governance standards.

Mr. Li pointed out that individual companies are exploring independently, resulting in inconsistent standards and incompatible interfaces. This fragmentation not only elevates industry costs but also lays the groundwork for potential safety hazards. "Therefore, we sincerely suggest that the entire industry work together to promote standardized AI governance, ensuring that technological innovation has clear regulations and standards to follow. This is not only about the healthy development of the industry, but also the key to China's automotive sector gaining a stronger voice in global competition," he stated.

Addressing the topic of automotive exports, Mr. Li remarked that while exports are currently providing significant momentum, overseas markets should not be viewed as a simple extension of the domestic market. Different regions have their own unique regulatory frameworks, data governance rules, and safety certification standards. An enterprise's compliance capabilities will ultimately determine how far and how deep it can go in foreign markets.

In his view, new technologies are creating unprecedented opportunities. New energy and intelligent connectivity are reshaping the global automotive technology landscape, opening a window for the restructuring of global standards. From battery safety and charging interfaces to functional safety and data governance, China has accumulated comprehensive technical capabilities and industrial experience. "We have reached a new stage where we can participate broadly in, and even lead, the formulation of global standards," he explained.

He further cautioned that if companies remain stuck in a product-export mindset, only shipping vehicles without building out local systems, they will struggle to truly establish roots in overseas markets. Only by co-developing standards with local partners and jointly enhancing local industry and service capabilities can the transition be made from simply "going out" to truly "integrating in."
