AI Stock Soars from HK$1,000 to Nearly HK$3,000 in Six Sessions, Valuation Rivals Three Meituans

In early trading today, the shares of Hong Kong's leading large language model stock, KNOWLEDGE ATLAS (HK:02513), surged dramatically, hitting a peak of HK$2,980 with an intraday gain exceeding 42%. Although the price later retraced significantly, it remained substantially higher. The journey from around HK$1,000 to nearly HK$3,000 was completed in just six trading sessions.

Even more astonishing is that KNOWLEDGE ATLAS's total market capitalization has breached the HK$1 trillion mark, reaching a high of approximately HK$1.3 trillion. This valuation briefly propelled it past Fast Retailing to become the 11th most valuable company on the Hong Kong stock exchange, an achievement for a company that has been listed for less than half a year.

The Meteoric Six-Day Rise

On June 11th, after a period of consolidation, KNOWLEDGE ATLAS found a bottom at HK$1,061. Few could have predicted that just six sessions later, it would be challenging the HK$3,000 level. The stock jumped 32% on June 15th, breaking through HK$1,600. It rose another 12% on June 17th, surpassing HK$1,700. A 26% surge on June 18th saw it close above the HK$2,000 milestone for the first time. Today's early surge to HK$2,980 further solidified its position as Hong Kong's highest-priced stock.

The stock's valuation at today's peak equates to roughly three times that of Meituan and four times that of JD.com, highlighting its extraordinary run among major tech constituents.

Catalysts for the Surge

The rapid ascent in valuation can be attributed to three key short-term factors. First, the stock's inclusion in Southbound Stock Connect on June 8th attracted substantial inflows, with net purchases exceeding HK$5 billion by June 18th. Second, a voluntary announcement on June 15th regarding the launch of its new flagship model, GLM-5.2, acted as a catalyst. Third, the company's plan for a secondary listing on Shanghai's STAR Market, announced on June 1st with a target fundraising of RMB 15 billion primarily for LLM R&D, is progressing rapidly, having entered the final guidance acceptance phase just 16 days later.

Foundations of a Trillion-HK Dollar Valuation

The company's market cap has expanded over 24-fold since its listing debut on January 8th, when it closed at HK$131.5 with a modest first-day gain. The foundation for this growth lies in its stated mission to achieve Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). The release of the GLM-4.7 model positioned its technology among global leaders. A significant leap came with the GLM-5 model launch in February, which featured a major parameter increase and, notably, a 30% API price hike amidst an industry-wide trend of cuts, a move positively received by the market. Recently, a comment from Elon Musk suggesting the company could match a competitor's level by early 2027, which was promptly challenged by KNOWLEDGE ATLAS's chief scientist, has also fueled interest.

Upcoming Challenges and "Stress Tests"

Following the GLM-5.2 launch, several brokerages have issued bullish reports, endorsing the model's top-tier global standing in areas like coding capability. This optimism has supported the trillion-HK dollar valuation.

However, the company faces imminent tests. The first involves a lock-up expiry on July 8th, marking six months since its IPO. This will release approximately 119.86 million shares held by cornerstone investors and some pre-IPO shareholders, potentially worth around HK$76.53 billion at today's peak price, effectively doubling the tradable share supply. Analysts warn this could trigger significant selling pressure.

An even larger "stress test" looms next January, upon the one-year anniversary of the listing. At that time, shares held by the founding team and early investors will become unlocked, representing nearly 40% of the total share capital. This event is viewed as the most significant post-listing challenge for KNOWLEDGE ATLAS.
