WeChat Pay Transactions Surge Over 20% During First Six Days of Spring Festival Holiday

Data released by the WeChat platform shows that during the six-day period from February 15 to 20, payment consumption continued to rise. Transactions related to travel and lifestyle entertainment via WeChat Pay both increased by more than 20% compared to the same period last year.

For domestic tourism, scenic spots in cities such as Nanchong and Kaifeng saw transaction volumes grow by over 50% year-on-year. In Suzhou, Huangshan, Xi'an, and Putian, transaction numbers at tourist attractions rose by more than 30%. Meanwhile, transaction value through mini-programs related to Hainan's duty-free shopping increased by 81% compared to the previous year.

In terms of outbound travel, offline spending in Malaysia and the Maldives surged by 131% and 186%, respectively. For inbound payments, the number of transactions made by overseas tourists using international bank cards linked to WeChat for offline purchases continued to grow. WeChat Pay now supports 29 overseas digital wallets from 12 countries and regions for payments within China, with transaction volume increasing by over 28% year-on-year.
