Porsche Inks $1.5 Billion AI Partnership Deal with India's Leading IT Firm TCS

Luxury automaker Porsche has finalized a five-year artificial intelligence collaboration agreement valued at €1.25 billion, or approximately $1.46 billion, with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest IT services provider.

As part of the transaction, TCS will acquire Porsche's IT consulting division, MHP, for €320 million, according to the company's official announcement.

Porsche's Chairman of the Executive Board, Michael Leiters, stated in a press release that this initiative will merge Porsche's automotive industry expertise with TCS's capabilities in digitalization and AI technology. In an era of mobility increasingly shaped by data and software, this partnership is expected to enhance the European sports car manufacturer's innovation capacity, operational efficiency, and competitive market position.

Since the start of this year, TCS has secured multiple AI-driven business transformation projects. The company disclosed that its annualized AI business revenue for the June quarter reached $2.6 billion, marking a 13.6% increase from the previous quarter.

Market sentiment has widely suggested that artificial intelligence could disrupt the business outlook for Indian IT services firms. The Nifty IT index, a benchmark for the IT services sector, has declined nearly 20% year-to-date, while the Nifty 50 index has only slipped slightly over 7% during the same period.

This collaboration with Porsche will take effect once the Indian software giant completes its acquisition of MHP, which employs approximately 4,500 staff members. K. Krithivasan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of TCS, noted that through this acquisition, the company aims to "achieve scaled AI industrialization for Porsche."

The deal is also poised to strengthen the Indian software provider's foothold in the German market, as well as its standing among automotive and industrial clients across Europe.

The divestment of MHP forms a key component of Porsche's "Sportwagenschmiede35" strategy, which targets improvements in the automaker's profitability and cash flow levels. Leiters remarked last month, "We are firmly driving our focus on core business activities," adding that the strategy's central focus is streamlining operations at every level of the organization.
