A report citing an Iranian senior official claims that Iran and Oman are in discussions about a plan to resume maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The source stated that Iran aims to control all shipping entering the strait under this proposed arrangement.

According to the report, Iran would also track the movements of vessels departing through the Strait of Hormuz and possess the capacity to intervene when necessary. "This is the general outline of the plan currently under discussion. Oman would allow outbound ships to proceed only after notifying Iran," the source explained.

The official further indicated that Tehran is unlikely to alter its stance, adding that Iran would not accept any alternative proposal for reopening the waterway. "It is improbable that Iran will change its position or agree to any other plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz," the source said.

In a separate statement aired on state television on August 2, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that Iran and Oman are working to delineate a new shipping lane within the framework of a traffic separation scheme. He emphasized that the goal is to safeguard the sovereign rights of both nations, as well as Iran's national interests and security.
