US Billionaires Pour $433 Million Into Midterm Elections, Musk Leads as Top Donor

American billionaires have already contributed over $433 million to the 2026 midterm elections, with nearly 80 cents of every dollar donated flowing to the Republican Party.

These figures come from an analysis released by Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF). The organization reviewed data from the Federal Election Commission as of March 1, finding that the top 50 billionaire families collectively funneled $344.3 million, accounting for approximately 79% of total donations, to support Republican candidates and conservative institutions.

The pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. was the largest single beneficiary, raising $89 million. It was followed by the American Political Action Committee ($45.3 million), the Senate Leadership Fund ($36.3 million), and the House Leadership Fund ($30 million), all of which back Republican candidates.

Unsurprisingly, the largest individual donor was Elon Musk. According to the ATF's tally, the world's richest person has contributed nearly $71 million to Republican midterm efforts. In second place was Wall Street financier Jeff Yass, with donations exceeding $55 million. Yass is a co-founder of Susquehanna International Group.

Since the ATF published its analysis, Musk's total contributions have continued to climb. By the end of June, his donations to this midterm cycle reached at least $90 million, including millions of dollars each to the campaigns of Republican billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy's run for Ohio governor and Texas Governor Greg Abbott's re-election bid. Ironically, Musk stated in 2025 that he would reduce political donations after a difficult period running the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Clearly, that pause did not last long.

The tilt of billionaire political donations toward the right is not a new phenomenon. ATF data shows that in 2024, the top 100 wealthiest families directed 70% of their political contributions, approximately $1.84 billion, to committees supporting the Republican Party.
