Space technology firm Voyager Technologies has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Pennsylvania State University, with the university officially joining the Voyager Institute for Space, Technology, and Advancement (VISTA) ecosystem.

The partnership aims to co-develop joint research initiatives in areas such as in-orbit research and manufacturing and national security, fostering the integration of commercial innovation with expertise in defense-related missions.

Voyager's Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer, John Baum, stated that these initiatives are positioning Pennsylvania as a hub for the company's integrated cluster spanning aerospace manufacturing, clinical research, and national security innovation.

The company operates a lunar manufacturing facility in Pittsburgh, leverages one of the nation's largest healthcare systems for life sciences research, and now adds a world-class research university to its network.

The agreement outlines a commitment for Voyager and Penn State to jointly advance collaborative projects and pursue external funding to support technological development.

It also grants the university access to reserved research resources, tenant opportunities, and collaborative spaces within the VISTA ecosystem, enabling it to work alongside Fortune 500 companies, startups, and government agencies.

This collaboration is designed to cultivate talent for the space economy and enhance VISTA's overall capabilities.

The two entities share a mutual interest in advancing defense and national security technologies, with potential collaboration spanning fields such as solid-state controllable propulsion, satellite communications, guidance, navigation and control systems, and signals intelligence.

VISTA is a science park based at The Ohio State University, specializing in in-orbit research, manufacturing, and services, with access to the International Space Station and future commercial space platforms.

The VISTA network has expanded rapidly over the past year.

Beyond the newly added Penn State University, its members include NASA's Glenn Research Center, the University of Connecticut, the University of North Dakota, along with international partners such as Óbuda University in Budapest, Hungary, and Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.

The community of commercial tenants is also growing steadily.
