Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced on Tuesday that it will appeal a federal jury verdict ordering the company to pay $191.4 million in damages for allegedly infringing organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display patents owned by an Irish display firm.

A jury in Marshall, Texas, ruled on Monday that Samsung's smartphones, TVs, computers, and wearable devices violated two OLED-related patents held by Pictiva Displays.

Samsung Electronics denied the allegations and stated it would challenge the decision.

"We intend to appeal the jury's finding that these two patents were infringed," the company said.

Samsung also noted that it is pursuing a separate case with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to invalidate the patents in question.

The lawsuit, filed in 2023, is one of several major patent disputes Samsung faces in Texas, a key jurisdiction for corporate intellectual property litigation in the U.S.
