Shares of ING Groep NV surged 5.11% in pre-market trading on Thursday, as investors reacted to the Dutch lender's robust second-quarter financial results and upgraded guidance.

The bank reported a net result of €1.947 billion for the second quarter of 2026, with profit before tax up 23% year-on-year. Earnings per share of $0.79 beat the analyst consensus estimate of $0.74, while total sales of $7.305 billion also exceeded expectations. The strong performance was driven by accelerated growth in its customer base, with mobile primary customers expanding by 377,000, and significant increases in both net core lending and deposit inflows.

ING also raised its outlook for 2026 and 2027, now expecting total income to exceed previous targets and return on tangible equity to surpass 15% and 16% respectively. RBC Capital Markets noted that the upgraded guidance and good cost control should lead to consensus upgrades, with the new outlook based on potentially conservative interest-rate assumptions. CEO Steven van Rijswijk highlighted the continued commercial momentum and successful support for clients amid ongoing uncertainty.
