Mining heavyweight Zijin Mining Group Company Limited (SSE: 601899, HKG: 02899) has publicly apologized after a series of embarrassing typographical errors appeared in its semi-annual report, sparking widespread discussion among investors.

On August 21, the company's earnings release mistakenly wrote "墨竹工卡县人民政府" as "墨竹工卡县人民币政府," turned "青海西宁农村商业银行股份有限公司" into "青海西宁农村商业股份有限公司," and rendered "江苏藏青新能源产业发展基金合伙企业(有限合伙)" as "江苏藏青新熊源产业发展基金合伙企业(有限合伙)." The errors quickly drew attention from market watchers.

Responding to the backlash, Zijin Mining released a correction notice on September 5. The statement confirmed that three institutional names in the "Notes to Consolidated Financial Statements" section of its semi-annual report and earlier announcements contained text errors, and the company has now issued corrections for all affected entries.

The company emphasized that after a thorough review, the mistakes did not involve any financial data, accounting items, or operating metrics in the reports, and thus would not materially affect the truthfulness, accuracy, or completeness of any previously disclosed periodic reports. Still, it extended its sincere apologies to investors and the institutions involved.

Looking ahead, Zijin Mining stated it will further strengthen its internal information disclosure management procedures, tighten review and approval workflows, and improve coordination with its annual audit firm to prevent a recurrence of such issues.

According to corporate records, Zijin Mining Group Company Limited is a large multinational mining conglomerate listed on both the A-share and H-share markets. The company is primarily engaged in the exploration and development of global mineral resources, ranking first in China for copper, gold, and zinc production, while also expanding into lithium and molybdenum for new energy materials.

In its latest semi-annual report, Zijin Mining posted operating revenue of RMB 194.178 billion and net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 39.17 billion for the first half of 2026, representing year-on-year growth of 15.78% and 68.17%, respectively. The company also announced an interim dividend distribution totaling RMB 11.136 billion.
