Meituan has for the first time released comprehensive data on its food safety inspection system. Over the past year, the platform carried out more than 1.3 million offline inspections, leading over 24,000 merchants to complete corrective actions regarding storefront signage and back-of-house issues. Among these, approximately 20,000 merchants addressed inconsistencies between online and offline information such as store name, licenses, and addresses. More than 4,000 merchants passed reinspection and resumed operations after implementing measures such as video verification, kitchen sanitization, and transparent kitchen setups.

The inspection system focuses on three key areas: verifying store authenticity, assessing back-of-house conditions, and incorporating supplementary food safety clues. It integrates inspection, follow-up review, and collaborative governance into a unified management process. Merchants found with food safety issues during inspections are suspended according to platform rules and given a deadline to rectify problems. They may resume taking orders only after passing a re-inspection.

Ahead of the May Day holiday, the platform has strengthened food safety inspections and merchant support in popular tourist cities, particularly around busy commercial areas and scenic spots. In addition, Meituan's app has launched a dedicated food safety section, which regularly publishes inspection data and updated regulations, gradually making more inspection information available to consumers.
