A recent police operation in Zhejiang province has led to the detention of 13 individuals involved in organizing and participating in vulgar online streaming competitions. These events, known as "showdown" battles, were designed to generate attention and profit by pushing the boundaries of acceptable content.
Authorities from the Zhejiang Public Security Bureau's cyber division identified a pattern of coordinated, lowbrow streaming sessions across multiple short-video platforms. An investigation revealed that an individual surnamed Zhao, along with local and out-of-provience streamers, collaborated to stage these extreme "showdown" contests with the explicit goal of attracting viewers and earning revenue.
Following the investigation, law enforcement successfully apprehended 13 suspects, including the primary organizers. All individuals involved have now been placed under administrative detention. The streaming accounts associated with the activities have been permanently banned.
