NIO's William Li on Global Expansion: Accelerating Entry into International Markets in Coming Years

At the 2025 Guangzhou International Auto Show, William Li, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of NIO Inc., discussed the company's globalization strategy. He stated, "NIO's vehicles were previously priced at a premium, positioning the brand in the high-end segment. This limited our market reach to major premium markets like China, the U.S., and Europe, which collectively account for over 90% of sales. However, with the introduction of sub-brands like Ledao and Firefly, the landscape has changed. Over the next few years, you will see NIO accelerate its expansion into global markets."

Li also highlighted adjustments to NIO's business model: "Initially, we relied entirely on direct sales, which proved highly capital-intensive. Now, we are shifting to partnerships with local players, leveraging their existing sales and service networks. This approach will significantly speed up our overseas expansion, and we are confident in its success."
