The crude oil output from Kazakhstan's major Karachaganak oil and gas field has been reduced by more than a quarter. This follows a drone attack that forced the shutdown of a Russian processing plant handling gas from this field.

Karachaganak is one of Kazakhstan's three major oil and gas projects, accounting for roughly 10% of the nation's crude production. A significant reduction in the field's gas output necessitates a corresponding cut in its crude oil production.

As reported by Interfax, citing Kazakhstan's Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov, the attack has led to Karachaganak's current daily crude output falling to approximately 25,000 tonnes, down from its usual level of 34,000 tonnes.

The production cuts were implemented on Wednesday, the same day the Orenburg gas processing plant in Russia, located about 170 kilometers from the Kazakh border, was targeted by a drone strike. The Ukrainian General Staff stated the plant ceased operations following the attack.
