Official figures from the national power grid, released on Monday, August 19, show that Jiangsu province has achieved a historic milestone in its renewable energy push. As of the end of last week, the province's cumulative installed photovoltaic capacity had broken through the 100-million-kilowatt mark, a first for any region in China.

This substantial capacity now constitutes more than 38% of the province's total installed power generation base. In a significant shift within the local energy mix, solar power has now overtaken both coal-fired power and wind energy to become Jiangsu's leading source of electricity.

A key feature of this expansion is the dominance of distributed solar installations, which account for nearly 70% of the province's total PV capacity. This decentralized approach to solar generation positions Jiangsu at the top of the national rankings in terms of distributed scale, underscoring the province's leadership in the transition to cleaner energy sources.
