Keppel Ltd. (BN4) announced the commencement of commercial operations at the 600 MW Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant on May, 29 2026, marking Singapore’s first hydrogen-compatible combined-cycle power facility.

The plant can co-combust up to 30% hydrogen with natural gas from the outset and can be modified to run entirely on low-carbon hydrogen. Together with Keppel Merlimau Cogen Plant, the new capacity lifts the group’s total power generation in Singapore by about 45% to 1,900 MW.

Keppel said the Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant is fully contracted for 2026 and 2027, which is expected to enhance the company’s recurring income. Ownership of the facility is split 70% for Keppel Asia Infrastructure Fund and 30% for Keppel.

Utilising advanced combined-cycle gas turbine technology, the plant is designed to reduce carbon emissions by up to 220,000 tons of CO₂ per year compared with Singapore’s average operating efficiency, equivalent to removing approximately 47,000 cars from the road.

With the new plant in service and up to 200 MW of imported low-carbon electricity under the Laos-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project, Keppel said it is positioned to meet growing domestic demand driven by expansion in semiconductors, digitalisation and artificial-intelligence infrastructure.
