The South Korean government has formed a task force comprising companies like Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor Group to advance efforts in building nationwide artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure using 260,000 GPUs supplied by U.S. chip giant NVIDIA.

The task force’s inaugural meeting was chaired by Ryu Je-myung, Vice Minister of Science and ICT, approximately a month after NVIDIA announced plans to provide the South Korean government and major conglomerates with up to 260,000 Blackwell GPUs.

During the meeting, executives from Samsung, Hyundai, SK Telecom, and Naver Cloud discussed implementation strategies for the GPU initiative and ways to expand collaboration to strengthen the AI ecosystem.

Participants agreed to maintain a standing coordination system through the new task force, which will convene meetings regularly.

Last month, NVIDIA announced its collaboration with the South Korean government and large corporations to deploy up to 260,000 GPUs in the country, aiming to establish a large-scale AI factory.

The company stated that the Blackwell-based infrastructure would increase South Korea’s total AI GPU capacity from approximately 65,000 to over 300,000 units, positioning the country as one of the world’s largest AI computing hubs outside the U.S.
