Final July Social Security Payments to be Distributed in the US on July 22

The United States Social Security Administration will issue the final round of Social Security payments for July on July 22, with millions of beneficiaries scheduled to receive their funds on that date. This distribution covers retirees, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with birth dates falling between the 21st and 31st of the month, marking the last of three scheduled payment batches for July.

According to the Social Security Administration's payment schedule, monthly benefits are distributed in three batches, with the specific date determined by the beneficiary's birth date. Those born between the 1st and 10th receive payment on the second Wednesday of the month; those born between the 11th and 20th on the third Wednesday; and those born between the 21st and 31st on the fourth Wednesday. July 22 coincides with the fourth Wednesday of this month, qualifying it for this final batch.

The payment amounts being distributed already include the 2026 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA). The Social Security Administration previously announced a 2026 COLA increase of 2.8% in response to inflationary pressures. Following this adjustment, the average monthly payment for a retired individual is approximately $1,924, while the average for a retired couple is about $3,192. Average monthly amounts for survivors and disability insurance beneficiaries have also seen an increase.

Social Security benefits serve as a crucial income source for approximately 70 million retirees, individuals with disabilities, and survivors in the United States. Data from the Pew Research Center indicates that around 40% of retirees report that Social Security constitutes their primary source of retirement income, with about 12% relying on these benefits to cover basic living expenses.

It is important to note that earlier this month, the Social Security Administration Commissioner issued a statement highlighting that the agency is currently facing staffing shortages and budgetary pressures, which could potentially impact future payment processing efficiency and customer service quality. The agency has called on Congress to promptly pass a budget appropriation to ensure the Social Security system continues to operate normally.

The schedule for Social Security payments has become a key factor for beneficiaries when planning household expenses. Financial planners advise beneficiaries to align bill payments and major purchases with their expected payment dates to avoid financial strain caused by any delays in fund receipt.

The Social Security Administration stated that if a beneficiary does not receive their payment on July 22, they should contact the agency's customer service center after two business days to inquire. The agency also reminds beneficiaries to remain vigilant against scams targeting Social Security funds and to avoid sharing personal information with unverified individuals.
